Frequently Asked Questions (For Employers)
1. How is a Vivacare caregiver different from a maid?
Vivacare caregivers are engaged specifically to provide elderly care support in the home. They have completed national caregiver certification requirements and are currently undergoing structured On-the-Job Training (OJT) in public nursing home settings to ensure they are prepared for real caregiving environments.
Their primary role is to assist elderly individuals with daily living activities, mobility support, personal care, and maintaining a safe and comfortable living space for the senior. Caregivers are willing to perform housekeeping tasks directly related to elderly care, such as keeping the elderly person’s room clean and supporting hygiene and safety needs.
However, the caregiver role does not include independently managing an entire household, providing childcare or pet care, or being solely responsible for highly dependent elderly clients who require continuous 24-hour supervision without relief.
This defined scope of work helps ensure clarity, fairness, and a sustainable caregiving arrangement for both families and caregivers.
2. What training and caregiving skills do Vivacare caregivers have before arriving in Singapore?
Vivacare caregivers complete structured pre-departure training at accredited training centres in Indonesia before arriving in Singapore. This training covers 36 essential caregiving competencies required for elderly care in home and care-facility settings, ensuring caregivers are prepared for practical, day-to-day care responsibilities.
The training covers:
Personal care support, including bathing (bed and bathroom), toileting assistance, oral and denture care, feeding support, and changing bed linens
Mobility and safety assistance, such as walking support, wheelchair transfers, fall prevention, and basic movement and positioning
Basic health-related care, including measuring vital signs, medication administration, insulin injections, nebulizer use, bedsore prevention, and first aid
Dementia care and emotional support, including ethical communication, engagement activities, and support for elderly independence
Workplace readiness and safety, including occupational health and safety practices, documentation, reporting, and teamwork in care environments
Some caregivers may also receive additional supporting training, such as colostomy care, depending on care requirements.
This pre-departure training is complemented by local certification assessments and supervised On-the-Job Training (OJT) in Singapore to ensure caregivers are prepared for real-world caregiving settings and aligned with local care expectations.
3. Are Vivacare caregivers nurses?
Our caregivers are not registered nurses in Singapore and do not replace hospital-based nursing care. However, they are formally trained caregiving professionals with strong foundational knowledge, practical caregiving competencies, and experience in assisting individuals who require daily support and supervision at home.
This makes them suitable for families who need consistent, capable, and respectful care, without the cost or setting of institutional care.
4. What qualifications do your caregivers have?
Each Vivacare caregiver holds recognized healthcare-related qualifications from accredited institutions in their home country, ranging from certifications to diplomas and degrees.
In addition, all caregivers complete 36 essential caregiving competency areas before being placed with families.
5. Will the caregiver know how to handle elderly parents or recovery care?
Yes. Our caregivers are trained to assist individuals who require:
• Elderly care and mobility support
• Post-hospital or recovery assistance
• Ongoing daily supervision and companionship
Care is delivered with patience, dignity, and respect, following structured routines rather than ad-hoc assistance.
6. How are caregivers selected?
Every caregiver goes through an individual selection process, which includes:
• Qualification and background screening
• Competency-based assessment
• Caregiving attitude and suitability evaluation
We prioritise reliability, empathy, and professionalism, not just experience.
7. Can caregivers adapt to different family routines and preferences?
Yes. While caregivers follow professional care standards, they are also trained to adapt to household routines, cultural preferences, and individual care needs—within reasonable and ethical caregiving boundaries.
8. Is this service suitable if my family has never hired a caregiver before?
Absolutely. Vivacare is especially suitable for families who:
• Are unsure about managing care on their own
• Prefer a structured, trained caregiver rather than learning through trial and error
• Want reassurance that care is delivered responsibly
